Happy Holidays in History 2008

Back after a small hiatus is the History and Genealogy Department Holi-blog. We wish all our branch and Central brethren the happiest of holidays in these lean times. We all receive gifts from family or friends that may not be exactly what we wanted but we put up a good face. These staffers show how delighted they are with this year's bounty. Why, they are as happy as the little ones sitting on Santa's lap as seen occasionally here also. Let's see what LA-Santa had in his bag this year.

To view the entire blog in one stream put your cursor over the 2008 to the right of the santa photo and click.

Happy!

Kids love Santa!

Just what I always wanted

Linda finds a beautiful necklace made entirely of golf tees and it goes with everything!

It's the most wonderful time of the year

Cindy says I love it...I love it!!

...uh...what IS it?

Sleigh Ride

It was fascination.

Oh great! Limitless recipes for fermented cabbage, just what a middle-aged man needs!

There's no place like home for the holidays

Crockpotphobia

A nice gift except Christina suffers from:
Crockpotophobia: an inordinate fear of casseroles prepared in the slow-cooker, just like Mom used to make.

These are a few of my favorite things...

Peace, love and joy for the holidays

Glenna says this wooden peace sign will go great around the crash pad, except she hasn't seen one since 1968.

Do you hear what I hear?

Once upon a Christmas time

Si, Si, Nelson says this tie would look cool...on his abuelo.

Have a Holly Jolly Christmas

Duck and Cover

Just the thing for a native Bostoner, Bill, an earthquake mug that really makes drinking hot beverages very difficult.

feliz navidad

You shouldn't have, no really, you shouldn't have!

Michael dijo Hay Caramba!!!

Rudolph won't you...

Send in the clowns

Jose says that these clowns could make Santa, Mrs. Claus and their elves depressed.

Visions of sugarplums

On second thought...

I finally get a cubicle and this is to be my decorative ikon?

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Angels We Have Heard on High

Not really an angel for Carolyn but a large, plastic replica of Mothra, co-star of Godzilla films that she has never seen.

Here comes Santa Claus!

Break glass in case of grandma's fruitcake

Fernando the gourmand finds that "knowledge is power" but sometimes knowledge is disgusting.

up on the rooftop

...and a thingie in a pear tree

Bette is unclear as to what this is or why it was a gift but it's the thought that counts.

on blixen...

arts and crafts

Magdiel just loves the 2 cent strawberry plastic basket made to look like a 19th century surrey except for the wheels part.

He's checking his list

this is it?

Alicia is smiling but inside she is just wanting to run into the workroom, sobbing. She was promised an LAPL Christmas bonus and instead got this.

Ho Ho Ho

Sample this dude

Andrew, future music impressario ponders the chops of some dude named Liberace, the curly hair is ridonkulous.

Good Yule!

Twin Terrifics

It's hard for Terri to make a choice between the "vintage" Hulk Hogan action figure and the lion whisk. Take the deal Terri!!!

Hallejuhah!

Is it real or is it memorex?

Roger palms the giant cockroach but wonders if it came from KB Toys or the men's room.

Gloria

Great deals at Value Village thrift stores!

Maybe it wasn't the best idea to put the limit on gifts at 99 cents this year. Gina received a filthy but genuinely vintage feathered hat, Abner got a genuine gin distiller cricket cap, Liz got a Jabba the Hut collectible, Edwin got a genuine Wisconsin Ed Gein style hunting cap and Oscar pulled down Jaws eating Barbie.

Noel

Merry Christmas fool!

Christopher is pumped up to hear what Mister T says about growing up cool. It's as topical as 1983, before he was born.

Good yom tov

Not to leave out our Jewish friends on the holidays this boy seems as thrilled with lighting the menorah as the others do sitting on Santa's lap.

Happy once again
